Obituary of Donald Lee Sliger

Donald Lee "Don" Sliger, age 72 passed away at his home in Idabel, OK on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. Don was born in Siloam Springs, AR on July 17, 1945, the son of Thurman Homer Sliger and Dorothy Elizabeth Atkins Sliger. Don was a 1963 graduate of Vanoss High School in Vanoss, OK. He joined the US Army and served from 1966-1969 in Germany during the Vietnam War. After his military stint he attended Oklahoma State University receiving his bachelor's degree in agriculture in 1972 and his masters in animal science in 1973. Don was a rancher. He taught VoAg, shop and welding in Collinsville, OK, Mansville, OK and Silo, OK. He enjoyed working on farming implements and attending the Brinkley Auction where he visited with many friends. Affectionately known by his friends as Santa Claus due to his long flowing white beard. Don was a member of the First Baptist Church and had lived in the Idabel area for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Don is survived by his daughters, TaLeesha Sliger of Idabel, OK, Lacey Osterdyk of Minnesota and Lyndsey Eason of Idabel, OK; a son, CW2 Joshua Rodgers of Denison, TX; sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen Sliger Colbert and Billy of Ft. Worth, TX and Judith Caton Grisso and Gary of Ada, OK; brother and sister-in-law, Howard Sliger and Pauline of Stonewall, OK; grandchildren, Elyssa, Easton, Garret Lee and Gavin Lane; uncles, Howard M Sliger of Amarillo, TX, Kenneth Sliger of Jacksonville, TX and Harold Atkins of San Antonio, TX; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers a fund has been established at the McCurtain County National Bank to help the family with expenses.
