Obituary of Martha Ann Carew

Martha Ann Carew, age 80, longtime Sawyer, OK resident passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Idabel, OK. She was born in Haworth, OK on October 27, 1935, the daughter of Roy Dewitt Newman and Jennie Geneva Drake Newman. Martha was a 1953 graduate of Hugo High School. She attended Oklahoma A & M where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta and also a cheerleader. Martha married Bob Carew on August 1, 1958 in Mexico and he preceded her in death. Martha was a homemaker and a wonderful cook. She owned and operated Rob-n-John’s Store in Sawyer, OK for several years as well as a boarding house which was originally operated by her mother. Martha enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bingo at the nursing home and when she was younger, dancing. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Robert “Bob” Carew; a sister, Geneva Newman; and brothers, Leroy Newman and Lendall Newman. Martha was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. Martha is survived by her daughter, Dr. Roberta Suhr and husband, Dr. Darrell Suhr of Millerton, OK; son, Johnny Carew and wife, Zelma of Valliant, OK; grandchildren, Candice Prince and Casey and Charity Vesseni and Jeff all of Valliant, OK, Valerie Suhr of Ft Worth, TX and Crystal Suhr; great-grandchildren, Abriana, Lyric, Jagger, Tara, Lucas, Josey and Conagher; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
