Obituary of Velma Smith

Velma Smith, age 103 passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Idabel, OK. She was born on November 21, 1912 in Broken Bow, OK, the daughter of James Joseph and Mary Josephine West Tidwell. She and Cullen “Cullie” Smith were united in marriage in Hugo, OK on December 21, 1944 celebrating 51 years together until his death in 1995. Velma worked as a Postmistress for approximately ten years in Garvin. She was a member of the Garvin Church of Christ and was a devout Christian all of her life. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, and had a love of flowers and reading the Bible. Velma had a heart full of love for everyone and was loved by all who knew her. Her memory will be forever cherished by her surviving children. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry DeWitt Smith; grandson, Larry DeWayne Smith; seven brothers; and three sisters. Velma is survived by; her daughter, Janice Tidwell Pfeifer of Las Vegas, Nv; sons, Anthony Smith and wife, Sandi, and Joe Smith and wife, India, all of Garvin; 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Garvin Baptist Church in Garvin, OK. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the funeral home
