Obituary of Horace Whitten

James Horace Whitten, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Bonham, TX. He was born on September 22, 1926 in Idabel, OK, the son of Henry Bascom Whitten and Johnnie Huff Whitten. Horace was a rancher. He was a veteran of the US Army and WWII where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre as well as in the Japan occupation force. Horace loved playing dominoes with his many friends at the Idabel Nutrition Center. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Irene Whitten and Dorothy Whitten; sisters, Bettie Lappin, Beatrice Kincaid and Rachel Caudle. Horace is survived by his nephews, Mike and Rhonda Lappin of Lavon, TX, Dale and Margaret Lappin of Idabel, OK, James Paul and Gail Kincaid of Broken Bow, OK and Sam John Caudle of the Holly Creek Community; nieces, Cindy and Wayne Jordan of Watson, OK, Liz and Eugene Willis of Broken Bow, OK and Debbie and Mark Brown of Nicona, TX; step-daughter, Cindy Johnson of Idabel, OK; cousins, Bobby Whitten and Jane and Sonny Whitten and Linda all of Idabel, OK and Lewis Whitten and Bonnie of Hochatown, OK; numerous other relatives and many friends.
