Obituary of Juanita Pollard
Juanita Pollard, age 84 of Idabel, OK passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Idabel. She was born on April 12, 1932 in Idabel, the daughter of John J Murphy and Virgie Vola Bartlett Murphy.
Juanita was a retired telephone operator from Southwestern Bell. She was the switch board operator at McCurtain Memorial Hospital for several years and was also the County Election Board Secretary for a number of years. Juanita was very proud of the fact that she had begun taking classes at the ET Dunlap Center and received her Associates Degree and was a LPN School graduate as well.
She was an active member of the Friends of the Library and the McCurtain County Historical Society. It was very important to Juanita that Idabel be kept clean looking and she could often be found picking up trash to help with this. Juanita was a very active person, loved riding her bike and was an avid crossword enthusiast. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and had lived most of her life in Idabel.
Juanita loved her family and she was a fun grandmother. It was very important to her that she treated each of her grandchildren equally and fairly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James “Hack” Pollard; a son, John Patrick Suggs; and a brother, Wilburn Murphy.
Juanita is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Cindy Pollard of Poteau, OK; daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Joe Coffman and Jerri and Trace Mitchell all of Idabel, OK; grandchildren, Jake Coffman, Trent Mitchell, Matthew Pollard, Brooks Pollard, John Coffman, Taylor Pollard and Emily Mitchell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Jamie Murphy of Arlington, TX and John and Karin Murphy of Canon City, CO; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Glenn Gilbreath of Stamford, TX; sisters-in-law, Lou Murphy of Moore, OK, Glenda Elder and Lee of Texarkana, TX and Gail Snider and Leon of Hochatown, OK; brother-in-law, Donnie Pollard and Betty Jane of Idabel, OK; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
