Obituary of Vernell Nelson

Vernell “Bunk” Nelson was born in Idabel, OK to Lillie Mae Johnson on Oct. 9, 1949. He departed from this life on April 5, 2016. Vernell graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and attended Job Corp to obtain a skill as a Butcher. He was married to Annie Oakes of Muskogee, OK. He later moved to San Diego, CA and married Shirley Kindred of Fresno, CA. He then resided in Amarillo, Texas during his last years of his life. Vernell was preceded in death by his beloved son, Bernell Nelson; his mother Lillie Mae Johnson; his brother Donald Johnson; his sister Deetress Smith; his grandparents, Merchant and Lula Dillihunt. Vernell leaves to mourn his passing a son, Timothy and Psonya Hackett of Memphis, TN; his daughter, Shirine and Frank Pentaris of Tracy, CA; step-children, Sabrinna and Elmer Asberry of Kansas City, KS, Doris and Leonard Raynor of Denton, TX, Albert and Ursula Johnson of Albuquerque, NM, Martha and Rodney Jones of Muskogee, OK; sisters and brothers, Worth and Ruthie Lee Williams of Oak Harbor, WA, Earner and Gwen Johnson of Cedarhill, TX, Shirley Kay Ford of Grant, OK, Leon Reginald Wayne and Reina Merritt of Amarillo, TX, Jackie Eyvonna Smith of Amarillo, TX, Isiah and Linda Fay Thrower of Albany, GA, Raymond and Deborah Denise Graves of Idabel, OK; his grandchildren, Elijah, Deion, and Frank Pentaris Jr., Nadia and Aidan Hackett; a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
