Obituary of Gene Mixon

At the family home near Cisco, one minute before the stroke of midnight on May 9, 1944, Novia Mae Cooke Mixon gave birth to her second son, Ronald Gene, to the delight of his father, John Morgan Mixon. He passed this life on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Paris, TX. He grew up a country boy with a BB gun, a sling shot and a horse, attending elementary school at Forest Grove. He played football for the Idabel Warriors and graduated with the class of 1962. He obtained his Bachelor Degree in Education and Master’s Degree in Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and began his first teaching assignment at Yuba, OK as a vocational instructor and Coach of the boys and Girls Basketball teams. In 1972 he returned home to Idabel to teach vocational education, retiring after 29 1/2 years of instruction in life skills to many young men. Over the ensuing years, he was pleased to hear a former student tell him he made a significant difference in their life. He and Alyce Carole Westbrook Williams cherished their 25 years of friendship, travel, love and marriage that formed an inseparable bond. Survivors include his wife Carole of the home in Pinhook, TX; daughter, Trish Omega and husband Keith Cook of Meade; step-children, Jackye Palmer of Broken Bow, Robert Gene Williams of Sherwood, AR and Gena Wright and husband Shaun Redland; grandchildren, Ashley Cook of Norman, Nikki Cook of Mead, Gage Williams of Little Rock, AR, Will Palmer of Stillwater, Britton, KateLeigh and Grayson Wright all of Redland, Victoria Cook of Durant, Dillon Cook of Stillwater, Timothy Palmer and wife Brandi of Norman and Titus Palmer of Irving, TX; brothers, Rodger Mixon of Idabel and David Mixon of Golden Valley, AZ; and a special cousin, James Mixon and wife Janetta of Millerton. He was always at home in the saddle, roping, riding and training horses—a true cowboy with a heart of gold.
