Obituary of Dorris Helms

Dorris Helms, 67, of Broken Bow, passed away May 25, 2007 at her home. She was born July 20, 1939 in Golden, the daughter of George and Weasie Ruth Eason. Dorris married Billy Hawkins in November of 1955 and after 16 years of marriage Billy passed away and Dorris married Jessie “Butch” Helms on April 6, 1974 in Broken Bow. Dorris was a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with her family. Dorris was a longtime member of the Broken Bow Church of God and was a lifetime resident of this area. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Toni Hawkins; a granddaughter, Carrie Irene Hawkins; brothers, Carl Eason, and Alvin Eason; two sisters, Myrtle Freeman, and Alice Altom. Dorris is survived by her husband, Jessie “Butch” Helms of Broken Bow; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill Hawkins of Oklahoma City, John and Kristi Hawkins of Norman, and Jess and Lindsey Helms of Broken Bow; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Mark Cleghorn of Winthrop, and Marilyn and Don Exel of Bethany; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wendall and Louise Eason of Wright City, and Wayne and Bea Eason of Washington State; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lavenie Eason of Broken Bow, Dollie and Charles Cunningham of Golden, Inez Claborn of Broken Bow, Laverne Tolliver of the Oak Hill Community, and Marie and Don Stout of Garvin; a special friend, Carmaleta Wallace; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
