Obituary of Larry Hallmark

James Larry (Sarge) Hallmark age 71, of Idabel, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Idabel. He was born March 19, 1944 in Lamesa, CA, the son of Henry and Inez Hallmark. Larry served in the US Army retiring in the mid 90’s. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving there from February of 1967-1968 with the 9th Infantry Division. Larry was administrator of the Det. 1, Company A, 1st of 180th 45th S.I.B., ARNG. Ssgt. Larry Hallmark was a great influence to many who served under him and he was instrumental in the building of the new armory in the late 80’s. He worked many years at James Hodge Ford in Idabel where he made many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Larry is survived by his wife, Sylvia Hallmark of the home; a son, Scott Hallmark and wife, Leslie of Hawaii; daughter, Lezlea Brandon and husband, Greg of Alaska; brother, John Hallmark and wife, Karen of Austin, TX; step-daughters, Julie Maples, Leisa Harvey and Margot Hobbs; grandchildren, Logan, Ashley, Teaylor, Rachell, Candace, Trey and Chelsea; 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, a host of friends and of course the "James Gang". In lieu of flowers, a fund in Larry's name has been established at the Idabel National Bank to help local veterans with special needs. Goodnight, My Dear Old Friend He was loved and a imperfect child; he pranked & tricked his mood was rarely mild and he dreamed. Never really domesticated, was he, he loved his friends & cried when they died. Out of Bear Cat he rode the iron back of the US Calvary. Nam made him, it broke him.. combat forged iron and pain never healed. Lar played his old songs, lamenting old times, loyal to old friends and true to forgotten dreams.
