Obituary of Dorothy Harris

Dorothy Edna Harris, age 96, long-time resident of Idabel, OK was welcomed into heaven on Thursday, October 21, 2015 at Hill’s Nursing Home in Idabel. She was a retired school teacher, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Harris taught elementary children in the states of Washington, Oregon, Texas and Oklahoma. She shaped many children’s lives as a teacher. The last years as a devoted educator was in the Denison School system in which she retired. Mrs. Harris was presented the 50 year member pin for service in the Haworth Order of Eastern Star and a pin and certificate of recognition from the Oklahoma Grand Chapter. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. She was comforted and delighted in God’s Word shared by her pastor, Mahlon Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Maggie McBrayer; step-mother, Leona; husband, Woodrow C. Harris, the love of her life for 60 years; sisters, Lydia McBrayer and Lillie Hardy; and brothers, Stanley, Emerson, Luke, Buck, Oscar, and Joseph McBrayer. Mrs. Harris is survived by her three children, Janetta Thicle of Houston, TX, Norma Jean Carter and Bobby of Idabel, Gerald Wayne Harris and Bonnie of Kelso, WA; her eleven grandchildren, Woody Harmon of Huntsville, TX, Brook Harmon of Austin, TX, Tanner Thicle and Jessica of Yoakum, TX, Jana Walsh and Michael of Katy, TX, Johna Sepulveda and Marcus of Madisonville, TX, and their father, Jim Harmon, Dana Hobbs and Billy Jack of Idabel, Pam Sweat and Rodney of Brazoria, TX, Gina Swope and Michael of Sims, TX, Kristi Cox and Ted of Brazoria, TX, Lori Whitten and Kyle of Idabel, and Jeremy Harris of Kelso, WA; 28 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; two dear close friends, Betty Havens and Joyce Strawn. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2015 at the White Family Chapel with Bro. Mahlon Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Denison Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the funeral home.
