Obituary of James P. Blackwell

James P. "Jay" Blackwell Sr., age 91, of Wright City, OK passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Wright City, OK. He was born on January 8, 1924 in Boswell, OK, the son of James William and Melvine Blackwell. Jay worked as a mechanic most of his life. He enjoyed going to yard sales, working on old cars and tractors and wood crafts. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. He was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, William Roebuck; wife, Gladys Blackwell; brothers, Jet Blackwell and Dude Blackwell; and sister, Juanita Rogers. Jay is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, James and Shelia Blackwell and Chris and Jacqueline Blackwell, all of Wright City; daughters and sons-in-law, Laquitta Blackwell, Shirley and Ray Armstrong, Cymerdean Blackwell, all of Millerton, OK, Lawonna Watkins of Broken Bow, and Patty and Steve Cantrell of Pickens; grandchildren, James and Paula Christopher, Raymond and Amanda Christopher, Charles and Misty Armstrong, Shawn Blackwell, Roseanna and Alexander Torres, Trindon and Lori Blackwell, Derik and Julie Blackwell, Shirley Shanaeann Blackwell, Christopher and Monica Blackwell, Stephen Cantrell, Ikey and Chrissy Cantrell, Dusty and J. D. Hardaway, Missy Cantrell, Stefanie Cantrell, Brandon and Sandra Watkins, Amanda Chapman, and Stevie and Chelsea Foster; great-grandchildren, Madison Christopher, Caleb Christopher, Cade Christopher, Elizabeth Christopher, Laci Christopher, Nathan Armstrong, Chalea Armstrong, Triston Blackwell, Christine Bendler, Brodie Torres, Zander Blackwell, Jasmine Blackwell, Colten Blackwell, Lilly Blackwell, Gavin Blackwell, Morgan Blackwell, Candon Dodd, Tristian Cantrell, Triton Cantrell, Ryder Hardaway, Ashton Hardaway, Laney Hardaway, Lyric Cantrell, Cayla Cantrell, Emily Watkins, Andrew Watkins, Nathan Chapman, Kenley Chapman, Rachel Chapman; great-great-grandchild, Addyson Armstrong; brother, David Roebuck of Sweet Home, OR; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Norman and Wanda Theral of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and James Roberts of Houston, TX; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Services will be held Monday, September 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Meeting Place in Millerton, OK with Bro. Tim Stuart and Bro. Chad Austin officiating. Interment will follow at the Slater Memorial Cemetery in Wright City, OK. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the funeral home.
