Obituary of Robert Lee Smith

Robert Lee Smith, age 80, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015 at his home in the Redland Community, OK. He was born on October 12, 1934 in the Harris Community, OK, the son of Clarence and Ersie Walker Smith. Robert worked in the oil fields of West Texas for several years, this is where he met his wife, Gracie, and they were married in Lovington, NM on December 29, 1965. After retiring he moved back to McCurtain County and did landscaping and mowing for area residents. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking care of his animals. Robert was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Paula Gordon; a son, Virgil Stringfield; grandsons Bradley Aylor and Adrian Stringfield; sister, Reta Hankins; brother, Billy “Coon” Smith; sons-in-law, Doug Gordon and James Jones; and his foster father, Merle “Pop” Krader. Robert is survived by his wife, Gracie, of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, James and Brenda Stringfield of Andrews, TX, Paul Stringfield of Perryton, TX, and Robert E. Smith of Denton, TX; daughters and son-in-law, Gracie Jones of Edgewood, TX and Kelly and Shannon Whisennand of Elkhart, KS; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Paula Smith of Harris, OK, Joe and Joyce Smith of Shinewell, OK, and Wayne and Mary Smith of Andrews, TX; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and JR Abney of Idabel, OK, Rachel and Gilbert Geesa of Laguna Vista, TX, Bernice and Lawrence Owens of Shults, OK, Barbara and Tommy Crow of Ashdown, AR and Geneva and Jim Friend of Idabel, OK; brother-in-law, Billy Hankins of Redland community, OK; eighteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Redland Cemetery with Bro. Jason Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, at the funeral home.
