Obituary of Fay Gurley

Lela Fay Gurley of Idabel, Oklahoma passed from this world on February 18th, 2015 at the age of 76. Fay was born February 11th, 1939 to William and Veola Nicholson. Fay graduated as valedictorian of Haworth High School, Class of ’56. On April 3rd, 1956, Fay married Buster Gurley in Hugo, Oklahoma. Fay was the proud and loving mother of two daughters, Charlotte and Sandy. Fay was a registered nurse who worked to save lives in the McCurtain County Memorial Hospital emergency room from 1974 until her retirement. She served on the McCurtain County Ambulance Board and was a lifelong member of the Haworth Church of Christ. She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, sewing, and held a special place in her heart for animals – especially dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Veola Nicholson, two sisters, Helen Adams and Margie Jackson, and two brothers, William Nicholson, Jr. and Johnny Nicholson. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles “Buster” Gurley of the home, two daughters, Charlotte Gurley and Sandra Gurley-Rodgers both of Idabel, special friend Ann Zimmer, and many other friends and relatives. Graveside service will be held at the Redland Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2015, with Aubrey Thompson officiating. In lieu of flowers, Fay’s family suggests a donation towards the research of pancreatic cancer or a memorial contribution to the Haworth Church of Christ.
