Obituary of John H Gilbert

John H Gilbert, age 71 of Idabel, OK passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Texarkana, TX. He was born January 25, 1943 in Idabel, OK, the son of Robert "Bob" Gilbert and Naomi Smith Gilbert. He attended Slater School, at an early age after leaving school he had many travels in his life. John went to California, Chicago, Kansas and Oklahoma City before returning to his hometown of Idabel, OK. In his various careers he was a pulp wood worker, a security guard, also worked at Blandon Westside Mortuary and his last and most favorite as a farm worker for Robert "Bo" Johnson. John H Gilbert was known as "Uncle John" to those who knew him best. He was no stranger to anyone, hanging out, visiting with family and laughing and joking with everyone. He enjoyed eating at the Gemini with his nephew, Robert, always after 12 pm. John loved to watch western's on TV and eating of which his favorites were chocolate cake and ice cream. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Kendra Richards; 7 sisters and 2 brothers. John will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. John leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Flora Allen of Idabel, OK; sons, Jermaine Richardson of Fresno, CA, Keith Richards and Ronald Richards both of Idabel, OK; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Opal Roberts of Idabel, OK, Mary Craft (Jackie) of Kansas City, KS and Annie Dunn of California; several nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. A. W. Gulley officiating. Interment will follow in Williamston Cemetery.
