Obituary of Dr.A.E. Devore

Dr. A E DeVore, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Idabel, OK. He was born in Norman, OK on August 26, 1922, the son of Arther DeVore Sr. and Hazel McGrew DeVore. Doc married Fay Weeks on April 1, 2010 in Texarkana, AR. Doc served in the US Army and was a veteran of both WWII and Korea. He was a drill instructor in WWII and a Warrant Officer during Korea. After his service in the military he went back to school and became Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine. He moved to Idabel in 1957 and soon thereafter opened his office and was still treating patients over 50 years later. Doc was very active in his community, serving as President of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Idabel Kiwanis Club where he was known throughout Kiwanis for his not having missed a weekly meeting for several years. Doc was especially fond of their yearly pancake day where he was responsible for cooking the pancakes. He was a longtime member of the By Pass Church of Christ where he served as an elder and a deacon. Doc also impacted many lives when for several years he taught a young converts class at the church. He also was an exceptional gardener and raised a huge church garden for many years out of which Doc would give the vegetables to church members and friends in the community Doc was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish, his weekly fishing trip was a highlight for him. Growing up in Norman, OK Doc became a lifelong Oklahoma Sooners fan and loved the Crimson. Doc was a devoted Christian and a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Elaine DeVore; sons, Dennis DeVore and Rusty DeVore; grandson, Dustin Lance DeVore; brother, Homer DeVore; and a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Bill Richardson. Doc is survived by his wife, Fay Weeks DeVore of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jan DeVore of Idabel; daughter-in-law, Brenda DeVore of Mansfield, LA; grandchildren, Melody Greer Burrier, McKenzie DeVore and Lance DeVore; great-grandchildren, Codi and Johnathan Bailey, DJ and Justin Verret and Hayli Matheny; great-great-grandchildren, Landry and Baylor Bailey and Emma and Madi Verret; step-son, Bill and Sharon Weeks of Broken Bow, OK; step-daughter, Cindy and ClarenceCulbreath of Tecumseh, OK; several nieces, nephews, other relatives; his By Pass Church family and many friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 at the By Pass Church of Christ in Idabel, OK with Wayne Warren and Boyd Warren officiating. Interment will follow at Denison Cemetery.
