Obituary of Dorthy Wilkins

Dorthy Wilkins, 91, of Idabel, left her earthly home on Sunday, April 27, 2014 to join her heavenly father and loved ones gone before her. Heaven welcomed another Angel home. She was born on November 14, 1922 in the Lukfata Community, one of 12 children the daughter of Collie and Lottie Brewer Butler. Dorthy was only 5 when her mother passed away, she learned at a young age to lean on her older sister, Ruby. She loved all her brothers and sisters and with their strong love they faced hardship and formed a bond that caused them to always be there for each other and they were. At the age of 19 she went to work at an Air Force Base during WWII, after the war she met J.C. Wilkins whom she would later marry. She had a very special bond in ministry with her sister Kathleen, writing songs and singing together for the Lord. She lived in many different places across the country and hard work was a way of life. Dorthy never complained and always found something to be thankful for. She could always find the good in people and loved those that others considered unlovable. Her home was a hospital to the sick or anyone in need. Dorthy selflessly gave of herself to make her family her life. Dorthy enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and loved her flowers. She was known as Mother, Mama, Grandma, Aunt Dorthy and Aunt Dottie but she will always be remembered for her loving gentle spirit that touched and changed many lives during her 91 years her on earth. Her legacy of love will be carried on through her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; 11 brothers and sisters. Dorthy leaves to cherish her memory her sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Judy Cogburn of Pottsboro, TX, Scott and Ruth Ann Butler of Detroit TX, and Norman Wilkins of Houston, TX; daughters and sons-in-law, Lois Francis Noah of Hugo, OK, Kathy and Grady Large of Wright City, OK, Judy and Doug Deramus and Shelia and Eric Lewis, all of Broken Bow, OK; loving caregiver and family member, Mona Deramus; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
