Obituary of Barbara Mills

Barbara Jean Mills, age 66 passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at her home in Idabel, OK. She was born on November 1, 1947, the daughter of Emmett and Dovie Shropshire Mills. Barbara was raised in the Redland Community after moving there at the age of 3. She was a 1965 graduate of Haworth High School. After graduation she worked as a seamstress at Kellwood Industries. She later attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University and in 1990 received her bachelor’s degree in business. While attending college she had a mail route in the Goodwater and Redland communities. Barbara went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a social worker in 1993 and retired in 2011. Barbara enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, knitting, sewing and was an avid OKC Thunder fan. She was a family member to many, and friend to many more. Actually becoming friends with strangers within the same conversation. Barbara was a very dependable, strong, and caring woman with a big heart. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Leon Mills; sisters, Geneva Beatrice Mills and Dewanda Sue Mills. Barbara is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Johnnita Harkrider Bruner and Don; son and daughter-in-law, Brian Harkrider and Kelly; sister, Leatrice Coffman; brother and sister-in-law, Emmett Mills Jr. and Marjorie; grandchildren, Jacob Davis, Calob Davis, Christopher Davis and Victoria Harkrider; several great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Haworth Assembly of God Church in Haworth, OK with Victor Balagbagan officiating. Interment will follow at the Redland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the funeral home.
