Obituary of William Denison

William "Hoppy" Denison, age 74, of Idabel passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Idabel, OK. He was born on January 8, 1940 in Idabel, the son of John and Ella Sullivan Denison. Hoppy and Virginia Ross were married on May 17, 1969. Hoppy spent over 33 years in law enforcement. The majority of that time with the Idabel Police Department, where he worked his way from patrol officer to Asst. Chief and finally serving as Idabel Chief of Police. He later worked for the Choctaw Tribal Police and most recently for McCurtain County Solid Waste. Hoppy was very well respected during his time in law enforcement and always tried to treat people fairly. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. Hoppy loved gardening and raised a large garden every year. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ricky Denison; sisters, Gail Martin and Doris Brown; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; Omer and Margie Ross; and a sister-in-law, Deloris Montgomery. Hoppy is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Virgina Denison of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Regina Ballard of Noel, MO, Christie and Paul Eyring of Mountain Home, ID and Charity Denison Bussell of Idabel, OK; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Randie Denison and JR and Louise Denison all of Idabel; grandchildren, Christopher Ballard, Billy Ballard, Matthew Bussell, Elizabeth Eyring and Daniel Denison; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the funeral home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Idabel, OK with Aubrey Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at the Denison Cemetery.
