Obituary of J Leffel Hill

Jesse Leffel Hill Sr., age 90 of Idabel passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Idabel, OK. He was born on February 20, 1923 in St Joe, TX, the son of Loyd and Ruby Bobo Hill. J Leffel married Doris Lea Chick on August 12, 1942 in Drumright, OK. J Leffel joined the US Army in January of 1943 and served in the 5th Regiment 71st Division until January of 1946. He proudly served his Country in numerous battles including the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Bronze Star among other medals for his service. He was discharged from the reserves in 1951. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 41 years and retired in 1980. J Leffel was a 32nd degree mason, a former Worshipful Master of the Haworth Lodge and the Past Patron of Order of Eastern Star, Okemah, Haworth and Idabel chapters. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. J Leffel loved his Church, the First United Methodist Church in Idabel where he and Doris were members and he taught a young men's Sunday School class. When younger he was an avid outdoorsman and liked to hunt and fish. He enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and keeping his lawn to perfection. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters and a brother. J Leffel is survived by his wife Doris of the home; daughters, Anna Lea Godfredson of Norman, OK and Amelia Lynn Fuhrman and husband, Paul of Gainesville, TX; a son, Jesse L. Hill II and wife Dolly of Spiro, OK; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the White Family Chapel with Rev. David Mercer officiating. Interment will follow at the Denison Cemetery in Idabel, OK. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Idabel First United Methodist Church, 302 SE Jefferson, Idabel, OK 74745.
