Obituary of Kirk Storey

Kirk Lee Storey, age 44, of Haworth, OK passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Texarkana, TX. He was born on November 8, 1968 in Texarkana, TX, the son of Joe Lee Storey and Judy Childers Storey. Kirk attended Haworth Public Schools and was a 1987 graduate of Haworth High School. He was very active for his school and served as his class president for several years. Kirk remained a lifelong supporter and fan of the Haworth Lions. He attended Carl Albert State College where he received his associates degree and Southeastern Oklahoma State University receiving his bachelors degree. He was a longtime member of the Haworth Volunteer Fire Department where he served as dispatcher. Kirk received many accolades during his life, including the Personal Achievement Award from the Temple Memorial Center in 1988, Wise Owl Award at the E.T. Dunlap Center in 1988, Outstanding Community Service from the Haworth Fire Dept. in 1989. He received an award from the Tom Fire Dept. in 2011 for his outstanding contributions and in 2010 was presented a plaque from the Haworth Fire Dept. for his 28 years of dedicated service. Kirk was very dedicated to his community and this just a few of the awards he received recognizing this. Kirk enjoyed collecting guns and military memorabilia. He wished to share his collection with others so he created Kirk's Military Museum of which he served as curator. Kirk was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and was a member of the NRA. He was also a ham radio operator and a member of the McCurtain County Amateur Radio Club. He was a member of the Haworth Methodist Church where he served as an usher and also taught a Sunday School Class. Kirk lived life to the fullest, he loved his family, was a friend and inspiration to all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Lee Storey; maternal grandparents, Doc and Esther Childers; and his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Loraine Storey. Kirk leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Judy Storey of Haworth, OK; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin Joe Storey and Angie of Haworth, OK; his nephew and the pride and joy of his life, Brantley Joe Storey of Haworth, OK; a niece, Kelsie Williams of Haworth, OK; his aunts, Barbara McMahan and husband, Jack of Conroe, TX, JoAnn Derryberry of Edmond, OK and Mary Sue Childers of Antlers, OK; numerous cousins, other relatives and many many friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Haworth High School Auditorium in Haworth, OK with Bro. Cory Wall and Bro. Miles Wesner officiating. Interment will follow at the Denison Cemetery in Idabel, OK. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, P.O. Box 78960, Phoenix, AZ 85062-8960.
