Obituary of Charles Jackson

Charles Lee Jackson, age 88 of Idabel, OK passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 30, 1924 in Annona, TX, the son of Lee and Fannie Steadham Jackson. He grew up in the Goodwater community. Charles left in 1942 to join the United States Navy where he served as a master boat handler during WWII. He turned 21 at sea during the war in 1945. Charles returned to the Haworth area after the war and graduated from high school in 1948. He married Margie Nicholson in June of 1949. He then returned to the Navy where he also served during the Korean War. He served aboard the submarines, Greenfish, Grumman, Swordfish, and the Woodrow Wilson. Charles retired from the Navy in 1967 as a Master Chief. Returning to Idabel he opened the “ Sweet Shop “ donut shop & Bakery. He made hundreds of beautiful wedding and special occasion cakes. He married Jo Webb in Nov. of 1988. Most locals remember Charles from his many enjoyable days playing golf at the Idabel Country Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ida Jenkins, Louise Keeney, Clara ( Dump ) Hill, his first wife, Margie Jackson, and grandson, Jerad Kirkpatrick. Charles is survived by his wife Wanda Jo Jackson of Idabel, his son Phil Jackson & his wife Michelle of Linn Creek, MO, his daughter Rebecca Flannery & her husband David of Idabel, step-daughter Deanna Howe & husband Steve of Edmond, Ok, brother John Jackson & wife Ruth of Eldorado, KS, grandsons, Justin Kirkpatrick of Idabel, Casey Jackson & wife Casey of De Queen, AR, Zach Jackson of DeQueen, AR; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013 at the White Family Chapel in Idabel, OK.
