Obituary of Sheila Harkey

Sheila Harkey, age 68, of Idabel, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Texarkana, TX. She was born on March 10, 1944 in Idabel, OK, the daughter of Robert Carl Hurn and Nellie Ellie Jones Hurn. Sheila graduated from Idabel Gray High School in 1962. Sheila was full time homemaker, mother, wife, bookkeeper, organizer and sanitizer. She worked part-time at several things including, a legal secretary, worked in the abstract office, a caregiver for the elderly and as a clerk at her brother's store. She loved taking care of her family and cooking large meals for family gatherings. Outside of family she enjoyed growing a garden, putting it up and then sharing it with others. Sheila would keep feed out for the winter birds as well as hummingbird feeders and enjoyed watching them. She always had pets including several outside dogs. Sheila also had a variety of inside pets including a skunk, ferret, parakeet, a cockatiel, 2 yorkies and several cats including her favorite named "Bob" who was part bobcat. Sheila was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a lifetime resident of Idabel. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Carlen Hurn and Lawrence Hurn. Sheila leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Merrill Harkey of Idabel; sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Sandy Harkey of Williamsport, IN and Robert and Jackie Harkey of Burleson, TX; grandsons, Troy Harkey II and Lucas Harkey both of Williamsport, IN and Brandon Harkey of Burleson, TX; a granddaughter, Stephanie Willis of Norman, OK; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Idabel, OK. Interment will follow at the Canfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the funeral home.
