Obituary of Ferne Smith

Ferne Smith, age 82, of Idabel, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at her home. She was born on November 22, 1930 in the Willow Springs Community, OK, the daughter of Aubrey and Mary Bloodworth Yokem. She was a 1949 graduate of Idabel Gray High School and then attended Oklahoma A&M University and graduated in 1952. Ferne was a homemaker. Her husband passed away in 1964 and she admirably raised her three girls as single parent. She was a devoted, loving and supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ferne enjoyed reading and collecting poetry. Ferne was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Idabel, OK. She was extremely active in her Church where she served as Church Clerk for over 35 years, Sunday School Teacher for many years and even Church Custodian for a while. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Smith; and a brother-in-law, Gary Collier. Ferne leaves to cherish her memory her daughters and sons-in-law, Jan Smith of Little Rock, AR, Wandalea and Jon Frost Sr. of Millerton, OK and Faith and Mike Murphy of Idabel, OK; sister, Audrey Collier of Mooreland, OK; grandchildren, David and Dana Bruner, Kim and Jerrod Hall, Mitchell and Miranda Bruner, Timothy and Sarah Bruner, Andrew Frost, Jon Frost Jr. and Rachael, Shanda Murphy and Michael Murphy; great-grandchildren, Jacxen Bruner, Casen Hall, Gage Bruner, Lily Frost, Korbin Frost and Nevaeh Dyke; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Doug Clements officiating. Interment will follow at the Denison Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 200 Calvary Lane , Idabel, OK 74745. These memorials will be used to purchase Bibles to be distributed by Missionaries around the world.
