Obituary of Phillip Coffman

Phillip Coffman, age 70, of the Redland Community, OK passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Tyler, TX after a sudden illness. He was born on January 27, 1942 in Idabel, OK, the son of R.B. Coffman and Ruby Kirby Coffman. Phillip was raised in the Bokhoma area where his family operated a saw mill. He graduated from Haworth High School in 1961. Phillip married Leatrice Mills on March 23, 1963 at the Redland Church of Christ and they made their home in the Redland Community, where they raised two daughters. He owned and operated Coffman Electric for over 30 years. In the late 1960’s he worked in law enforcement serving as deputy under Charlie Ray Hudgins, as well as a city policeman in Idabel, Broken Bow and Valliant. Phillip enjoyed making jewelry and was an avid collector of guns, knives and old cars. Phillip had a larger than life personality and enjoyed sharing his views, stories and life experiences with his friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Paul Coffman and Van Coffman. Phillip is survived by his wife of 49 years, Leatrice Coffman of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Teresa Coffman Williams of the Redland Community, OK and Tammy and Jeff Tidwell of Broken Bow, OK; grandchildren, Sgt. Joshua Williams and wife, Gina of Okinawa Japan, Jennifer Williams Skieens of the Redland Community, OK, Jordan Coffman of Durant, OK and Blade Tidwell of Broken Bow, OK; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Taygan, Raley and Emma; his sister, Nell Stewart of Chester, CA; sister-in-law, Barbara Mills of Idabel; brother-in-law, Emett Mills Jr. of Broken Bow, OK; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Redland Church of Christ in the Redland Community, OK with Victor Balagbagan officiating. Interment will follow at Redland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Stroke Association.
