Obituary of Harold Shankles

Harold Shankles, age 75, of Idabel, OK passed away on Wednesday August 15, 2012 at his home in Idabel, OK. He was born on May 17, 1937 in Idabel, OK, the son of William Oscar Shankles and Estelle Louise Hornbuckle Shankles. Harold married Patsy Green on June 11, 1960 in Idabel. He owned and operated Shankles Backhoe and Septic Tank Services since 1972. He was a hard worker and his work was very important to him. Harold was very devoted to his family. After his daughter Carol passed away Harold and Patsy took their grandchildren in to raise. The boys were very important to him and he loved spending time with them. Harold was know as "Poppee" to the boys and anyone else that would visit the house. Harold was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Idabel, OK and he loved his Church and his church family. He was a lifetime resident of Idabel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter Carol Shankles Wagner; sister, Pam Shankles; and a brother, Ferris Ray Shankles. Harold is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patsy of the home; his grandsons, Jared Wagner and Jonathon Wagner both of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Dudley and Diane Shankles of Gladewater, TX; a sister, Patsy Cain of Idabel; very special friend, Larry Lambert of Idabel; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Idabel, OK. Interment will follow at Denison Cemetery in Idabel, OK with Bro. Mahlon Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at the funeral home.
