Obituary of J.J. Smalling

Rev. J.J. Smalling, age 86 longtime Assemblies of God Minister passed away on Monday, July 23, 2012 at Idabel. He was born on July 19, 1926 in Glenwood, AR, the son of George and Hattie White Smalling. J.J. was raised in the Pickens, OK area. He received his 50 year pin from the Assemblies of God in 2004. J.J. and his wife, Jessie preached all over, and served as pastor's at Churches in Board Camp, AR, Rattan, OK, Yanush, OK, McCurtain, OK, Battiest, OK and Glover, OK. While in the ministry J.J. worked as a foreman on a blacktopping highway crew. He also owned and operated Smalling Auto Sales in Broken Bow, OK for several years. J.J. along with his wife were devoted to raising their family in a Godly home. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Jessie Smalling; son-in-law, John Davidson; granddaughter, Angie Smalling; daughter-in-law, Glenda Smalling; a former daughter-in-law, Kathy; brothers and sister-in-law, Conzia and Mildred "Skeet" Smalling and Billy Smalling; sisters and brother-in-law, Thelma and Warner Cooper and Edna Hodnett. J.J. is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Donna Smalling of the Redland Community, OK; daughters and sons-in-law, Juanda and David Hennard of DeQueen, AR, Marilyn and Rev. Melvin Baker of Hochatown, OK, Carolyne Davidson and special friend, Steve Jennings of Idabel and Brenda and Grant Sullivan of Texarkana, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Donna Smalling of Prineville, OR; sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Woodrow Morris of Spiro, OK; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joan Smalling of Prineville, OR, Veebal and Cecil Carr of Battiest, OK and G.W. and Lavelle Morris of Battiest, OK; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2012 at the First Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow, OK with Rev. Terry Scott and Rev. Lyn Gaskey officiating. Interment will follow at the Broken Bow Cemetery in Broken Bow, OK. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the funeral home.
