Obituary of Burley Moore

Rev. Burley Moore, age 88, longtime Idabel UPC Minister passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Idabel. He was born on October 13, 1923 in Boswell, OK, the son of William Porter Moore and Addie B. Walls Moore. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a WWII veteran. Burley served on a PT Boat on which they did minesweeping. He was at Iwo Jima when the U.S. famously raised our flag after taking the island. Burley was a licensed minister of the United Pentecostal Church International since 1959. He received his general license in 1961 and was ordained in 1978. Burley moved to Idabel in 1963 with his family to found and pastor Truth Tabernacle UPC and remained co-pastor until his health no longer allowed him to preach. Burley received his honorary membership with the United Pentecostal Church International June 1, 2012. Burley had a very kind spirit and never spoke negatively of anyone. He loved his family and was very devoted to them but his ministry and his faith were the most important things in his life. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eual Moore; infant great-granddaughter, Adaylia Gill ; and a infant great-grandson, Aiden Gill. Burley is survived by his wife, Johnnie Lou Moore of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Don Moore and Lila of Idabel, Johnny Moore and Anne of Idabel and Randy Moore and Julie of Ft. Worth, TX; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann Lewis and Earnest of Hope, AR, Brenda Cooper and Robert of Ardmore, OK and Avis Bazzill and Ray of Starkville, MS; brother, J.D. Moore of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Margaret Timmons of Millerton, OK and Lanelle Stewart of Oklahoma City, OK; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the New Life Tabernacle UPC in Broken Bow, OK with Rev. Matthew Martin and Rev. Johnnie Cheek officiating. Interment will follow at Wheelock Cemetery in Millerton, OK. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the funeral home.
