Obituary of Jim Weatherford

Jim Weatherford, 77, of Idabel, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. He was born May 15, 1935 in Guymon, Oklahoma, the son of Carol Aubrey and Ada Pearl Cawlfield Weatherford. Jim married Donna Fayrene Peters in Temple, Texas on January 24, 1958. Jim and Donna first moved their family to Idabel in 1962 to pursue a career in ranching, followed by a short career as Vocational Agriculture teacher. In 1965, Jim became a minister for the Churches of Christ. His ministry took the family to many places over the next 25 years including Arkansas, Texas, Oregon, Kansas, Wyoming, Massachusetts, Canada, and Colorado. After moving back to Idabel in 1996, Jim continued the furniture manufacturing business begun in Breckenridge, Colorado, adapting to the local cedar log for furniture building. Jim also continued teaching, and ministry with a focus on outreach. He was a longtime member and elder of the By-Pass Church of Christ. Jim's interests included raising cattle and horses, and a lifelong love of woodworking taking many forms from hobbyist to professional furniture repair and refinishing to his most recent occupation as a log furniture manufacturer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his parents, C.A Weatherford and Ada Weatherford; two sisters: Wanda Weatherford and Phyllis Davis; and one brother, Edwin Weatherford. Jim is survived by his children, David and Kim Weatherford of Idabel, Donny and Tammy Weatherford of Idabel, and Jay and Michelle Weatherford of Broken Bow; daughters and son-in-law, Debbie and Michael Greathouse of Alvin, Texas, and Jana Weatherford of Idabel; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Roy Risley of Edmond, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Lindy Scott, Brant Greathouse, Brian Weatherford, Coy Greathouse, Amy Calhoun, Logan Weatherford, Evan Greathouse, Lauren Weatherford and Laine Weatherford, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the By-Pass Church of Christ in Idabel with Roy Risley, Bob Connel, Brad Giddens, and Wayne Warren officiating. Interment will follow at Denison Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 26 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests honorariums be made to the outreach efforts of the By-Pass Church of Christ, P.O. Box 478, Idabel, OK 74745.
