Obituary of Thelma Ragan

Thelma Ragan, age 98, of Garvin, OK passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Idabel. She was born on April 9, 1914 in Kingfisher, OK, the daughter of A.J. McDowell and Jessie Ellen Conwell McDowell. Thelma was an accomplished homemaker. She was a wonderful cook and a talented seamstress, making many clothes for her family. Thelma enjoyed crocheting, reading and canning. She was affiliated with the Freewill Baptist Faith and had lived most of her life in McCurtain County. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Ragan; son-in-law, Kenneth Cowell; brothers, Clarence McDowell, Harry McDowell and Herbert McDowell; and a sister, Zoe Cherry. Thelma leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Beverly Cowell of Garvin, OK; grandsons, Kenneth Wayne Cowell and wife, Audrey of Florence, SC and Clayton Ray Cowell and wife Jeanie of Garvin; great-grandchildren, Kellee Detwiler and husband, Scott and Kevin Cowell all of Garvin; great-great-granddaughter, Abbigale Detwiler of Garvin; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Hollycreek Cemetery in the Hollycreek Community, OK with Bro. Orville Minyard officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the funeral home.
