Obituary of Ed Rodgers

Edgar Waymon Rodgers Jr., age 87, of Garvin, OK passed away and became an Angel of God on Saturday, March 31, 2012. He was born on November 4, 1924 in Arkinda, AR, the son of Edgar Waymon Rodgers Sr. and Myrtle Nichols Rodgers. He was a 1942 graduate of Foreman High School in Foreman, AR. Ed married Bernida Spihlman on April 30, 1949 in Trenton, IL. Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Brinkley Bass Battleship during WWII. He used his GI Bill to attend Flight School and received his pilot’s license. He went to work in oil field construction in 1948 and worked in oil and gas fields all over the South Central United States. Ed enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan. His favorite baseball team was the St. Louis cardinals. Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and loved his family very much. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Martha Rodgers; sons-in-law, Hayden Evans and Dan Roots; brothers, Larry Rodgers and Don Roton and a step-sister, Hazel Bartlett. Ed leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 62 years, Bernida Rodgers of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Wanda Rodgers of Garvin, OK, James Rodgers and Donna of Idabel, OK, Tom and Bly Rodgers of the Goodwater Community, OK, Terry and Penny Rodgers of Idabel, OK and Eddie and Donna Rodgers of McCloud, OK; daughters and sons-in-law, Francis Evans of Las Cruces, NM, Virginia Roots and Tim of Garvin, OK and Mary and Mark Ridge of Idabel, OK; a brother, Mike Rodgers of Georgia; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the Garvin Cemetery in Garvin, OK with Bro. Moses Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the funeral home.
