Obituary of Marie Wake

Lillian Marie Wake, 82, of Idabel, passed away Friday, February 23, 2007 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital. She was born August 25, 1924 in the Forest Grove Community, the daughter of Charles R. and Nell Jane Maddox Holman. She was of the Baptist faith. A very youth oriented woman, her home was open to everyone. Marie never met a stranger. She sponsored Teen Town, a favorite past time for local youth, furnishing her own record player and records to keep the youth entertained. An avid sports fan, Marie loved basketball, football, and baseball. OU was her team of choice, but she loved them all. She would often argue with her grandsons about the games. Marie dedicated her life for her children, working hard all of her life so that they could have everything she thought they deserved. She worked as a waitress for many years, and then as an assistant butcher at a local grocery store. Her hardest and most appreciated job was being a mother. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Taft Virgil Wake; brother, Ikey Holman; sisters, Imogene Wendt and Edna Gaines; half-sisters, Frances Ausmus and Thelma Blades. Marie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Jane Wake, Virgil and Margie Wake, Bill and Sherry Wake all of Idabel; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl K. and James D. Martin of Idabel; sister, Helen Stuart of Oklahoma City; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
