Obituary of Jimmy Dempsey

Jimmy Dempsey, age 69, of Garvin passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 28, 2011. He was born on December 12, 1942 in Wright City, OK, the son of Edward and Ruby Sanders Dempsey. Jimmy married Lenora Jamerson in Garvin, OK on June 29, 1964. Jimmy owned and operated Dempsey Grocery in Garvin for many years. He also worked as a truck driver before retiring, He really enjoyed listening to music but what he enjoyed most was working with youth baseball. Jimmy worked with kids from tee ball to American Legion and helped several young men receive scholarships. He often said those were the best years of his life. Jimmy was a member of the International Church of God and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lenora Dempsey of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Eddy and Diane Dempsey; daughter, Melissa “Sam” Cangley of Edmond; a brother, Bobby Dempsey of Idabel; grandsons, Colton Cangley and wife, Lauren, Ryan Cangley, Tra Dempsey and Brawley Dempsey; great-grandchildren, Claire Cangley and Clyde Cangley; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Graveside services will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Garvin Cemetery with Bro. David Jordan officiating. Interment will follow.
