Obituary of Clovis McGovern

Clovis Gene McGovern, age 76, passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 in Texarkana, Texas. He was born April 26, 1935, the son of Robert and Wilma Frey McGovern. Clovis married Marilyn Scroggins February 21, 1968 in Hamburg, Arkansas. Clovis was retired pipeline construction operator from I.U.O. Local #234. Following retirement he attended Missouri Auction School and used his training to organize and work many charitable benefits raising money to help schools and other community events. He answered calls for anyone who was in need of assistance. He truly loved serving his community and friends. He especially enjoyed his involvement with the schools and children. Clovis was a faithful member of Goodwater Masonic Lodge #148, Haworth Eastern Star, McCalester Scottish Rite and Bedouin Shrine. Being an active member, he developed many friendships in his state as well as many other states during his travels. He loved his family and especially doted on his grandsons. He loved deer and turkey hunting and the special friends he hunted with. He was known for his camo wearing attire and not many knew that he loved to wear his tux. Clovis received several awards and two were very special to him - the Jack Tucker Community Service Award and the Oklahoma Masonic Medal of Honor. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Danny Daniel of Tishimingo, and Julie and Michael Birdsong of the Redland Community; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Betty McGovern of the Pleasant Hill Community; grandchildren, Kelsey, Chase and Blake Daniel of Tishimingo, A.J. and Jack Birdsong of the Redland Community; five great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbye and Buddy Gamble of Broken Bow; brother and sister-in-law, Gwin and Carolyn McGovern of Idabel; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host friends. Services will be Tuesday, December 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the Haworth Assembly of God with Bro. Chuck Darby and Bro. Oscar Wilkie officiating. Interment will follow in the Denison Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 5, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
