Obituary of Jack Harkrider

Jack Harkrider, age 80 passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Dallas, TX. He was born April 6, 1931, the son of Henry and Blish Wright Harkrider. Jack was raised in the Pleasant Hill Community and attended Pleasant Hill and Haworth Schools. He was a gifted athlete and enjoyed playing basketball, softball and golf. He married Alice Fae Boyd on March 1, 1952. They moved to Dumas, TX and Jack went to work for Colorado Interstate Gas, which he retired from after 37 years. After retiring he moved back to the Pleasant Hill Community. The Harkriders are very gifted musically and Jack was no exception. He played the steel guitar and loved to make music with his family. Jack enjoyed working on his place and raising cattle. He was a renowned story teller and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church. Most of all though, he was a wonderful “Daddy and “PaPa” and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice Fae Harkrider in 2003; 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Jack is survived by his daughters and sons in-law, Ginger and John Morris of Farmers Branch, TX and Ramona and Jack Dye of Lillian, AL; sons, Mike Harkrider of Garland, TX and Steve Harkrider of Irving, TX; loving friend and companion, Pat Walker of the Pleasant Hill Community; brothers and sisters-in-law, Buck and Ann Harkrider of Dumas, TX, Max and Jane Harkrider of Dumas, TX and Bob Harkrider of Austin, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Clara Mae and Delbert Bell of Bokchito, OK; 8 grandchildren ; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many many friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Harris Cemetery with Rev. Trent Baggett officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2011 at the funeral home.
