Obituary of Shirley Ann Boyd

Shirley Ann Boyd, age 68 of the Goodwater Community passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Idabel. She was born on August 28, 1942 in Arkinda, AR, the daughter of Houston and Georgia Prater Evans. Shirley moved to Kansas as a small child, where she attended school. At age 15 the family moved back to Haworth, where she attended Haworth High School, met Don Boyd and graduated in 1960. She later received her bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Shirley and Don Boyd were married on her 18th birthday at the Redland Church of Christ. She and Don spent over 50 wonderful years together. She worked for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services for over 35 years. For the last eleven years she has been with Counseling Center of Southeast Oklahoma where she began working after her retirement. Shirley was a pillar of the Idabel and Goodwater communities. She always greeted anyone she met with a smile asking, 'how are you?' And she genuinely listened to their response. Her laugh was contagious, and her guidance was sincere. Shirley had a pure heart and loved the Lord. This was the path she chose in living her life. She loved her family and prided herself in being a phone call away anytime they needed their 'Granny Shirley.' Her philanthropy was evident daily by the good works she did in helping anyone she thought needed a hand. As her job led her, the selflessness she had was spread throughout more than just McCurtain County. She was preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter, Heather Boyd; a brother, Neal Evans; and sisters, Jonetta Vise and Beverly Pennington. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her husband Don Boyd of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Starlet and Brent Mattox of Sallisaw, OK; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Carri Boyd of the Redland Community; grandchildren and spouses, Tiffany and Jeff Sullivan of Norman, OK, Suzanne and Gary Pruitt of Sallisaw, OK and Morgan Boyd of the Redland Community; great-grandchildren, Cooper Evan Cox, Starlet Presley Pruitt, Bella Sullivan and Alyssa Sullivan; a brother, Blant Evans of Spring, TX; special dear friends, Myra Loving of Texarkana, Derrel Levy of Idabel and Kelly Haines of Sallisaw; 4 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the By-Pass Church of Christ in Idabel with Brad Giddens and Derrel Levy officiating. Interment will follow at the Redland Cemetery in the Redland Community. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2011 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the By-Pass Church of Christ in Shirley’s name.
