Obituary of Roy Douglas

Elmer LeRoy “Roy” Douglas, Jr., 89, former Idabel resident, passed away January 31, 2007 at Irving, TX. He was one of seven children, born to Elmer and Annie Douglas on April 29, 1917 near Hope, AR. After living in Oklahoma for many years, he made Texas his final home. Roy enjoyed fishing, country western music and being outside. He was a welder by trade and an awesome dealer. When it came to buying and selling and making a profit, it didn’t matter if it was a piece of metal or a parcel of land. He began making deals at the age of 10. While other children played, Roy would gather dried cattle bones out in the woods and countrysides, and sell them for 5 cents a pound. Roy was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Coralee Hughes Douglas; his parents Elmer and Annie Douglas; 2 sisters, Ruth Jenkins and Mamie St. Clair; and 2 brothers, Robert Douglas, Sr. and Forest Douglas. He is survived by 2 sisters, Martha Frances Smith of Irving, TX and Georgia Proctor of Broken Bow, OK; and 15 nieces and nephews who he loved dearly; other relatives and many friends.
