Obituary of Dayton Jackman

Dayton Clark Jackman, 84, of Idabel, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, June 26, 2011. He was born June 1, 1927, in Cooper, Texas, to the late Frank and Lottie Jackman. He was united in marriage to Thelma June Jackman on August 31, 1950. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother-in-law. Dayton and June operated a successful furniture business in Idabel for 54 years. He was an active member of the Idabel Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge, and he worked hard throughout his life to push for the advancement of other local retailers. He was also a loyal member of the Kiwanis Club and the First Baptist Church. Dayton served his country during the Korean War as a Military Policeman for the Army. Many years ago, he loved teaching his children, nieces, and nephews how to drive, and one of his favorite pastimes was going on long drives throughout McCurtain County. Throughout his life, he enjoyed raising horses, fishing, and watching westerns. More than anything, Dayton was a proud family man and loyal friend who enjoyed spending quality time with each and every one of them. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Letris Purser, Helen Joyce Glenn, and Jo Jones. Dayton is survived by his devoted, loving wife June Jackman of the home; son, Terry Clark Jackman and wife Cindy of Wright City, OK; daughter, Gayna Lynn Carter and husband Scott of Tulsa, OK; and son, Michael Doyle Jackman of Idabel; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Idabel. Interment will follow in the Denison Cemetery with Bro. Blake Gideon officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Attn: Donor Services, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309.
