Obituary of Minnie Chapman

Minnie Lee Baxter Chapman, 101 years of age, of Haworth went to her heavenly home on April 5, 2011, twenty two days before her 102nd birthday. She was born on April 27, 1909 in Bulger, AR to William M. and Mathora Ozora Baxter. Minnie married Virgil Chapman on August 5, 1929 and had a loving marriage for 51 years until the death of Virgil in 1980. Mrs. Chapman was a resident of the Goodwater Community since 1961. She was a long standing member of State Line Baptist Church and was a proud and loving mother and grandmother. Minnie immensely enjoyed quilting, making countless treasured heirloom quilts for each of her family members all the way down to her great-great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed canning, raising flowers, playing scrabble, family gatherings and travel with family in which she fulfilled a dream by getting to see both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil B. Chapman; sons, Joe Chapman and Kenneth Chapman; three brothers, Harvey Baxter, Tom Baxter and Bill Baxter; and two sisters, Ethel Corley and Pat Bowling. Minnie is survived by her sister, Johnnie Breece of Broken Bow; daughter, Wanda Blocker and husband Robert of Haworth; son, Jerry Chapman and wife Sharon of Eagletown; daughter, Sybil Gordon and husband Gene of Denton, TX; son, John Chapman and wife, Von of Bakersfield, CA; daughter-in-law, Betty Chapman of Eagletown; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the State Line Baptist Church in Cerro Gordo, AR with Cy Davis officiating. Interment will follow at the Cerro Gordo Cemetery.
