Obituary of Velma Walkup

Velma Viola Black Walkup left this earthly world to join our precious Lord and Savior at the age of 83 at 6:30 p.m. on March 11, 2011. She was born on February 6, 1928 at Wright City, the daughter of Ernest D. and Eva Lena Walls Black. She resided in many places, mostly in Okmulgee, OK, before returning to McCurtain County where she lived in Broken Bow for a number of years. Velma was of the Nazarene Faith and was a member of the Broken Bow Nazarene Church. She loved gardening and needle work before becoming disabled. Velma also enjoyed canning and selling her vegetables. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dicey Lawhon; and brothers, Delbert Black, Andrew Black, Ray Black and Roy Black. Velma leaves to cherish her brother, Herman Lee Black of Broken Bow; sisters, Agnes Marie Burns of Tyler, TX and Mary Hudson of Broken Bow; several sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Services will be Monday, March 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the White Family Chapel in Idabel with Bro. Steve Walls officiating. Interment will follow in the Valliant Cemetery.
