Obituary of Donna Rhea Johnson

Donna Rhea Johnson, age 90, of Idabel passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in Idabel. She was born January 12, 1921 in Glencoe, OK, the daughter of Wilbur and Anna Hazen Barber. Donna and her husband Virgil Johnson owned and operated several businesses in Idabel. Virgil was a painter and to make his painting business more profitable he and Donna opened Johnson’s Paint and Wallpaper in 1961. They later opened Johnson’s RV Parts and Johnson’s Arts and Crafts. She was a member of the Idabel and Broken Bow chapters of the Eastern Star for 54 years. In June of 2007 she was presented a 50 year pin by the Worthy Grand Matron of Oklahoma. During her years of service she held many titles including Worthy Matron, District Deputy, Grand Ambassador to Canada, Grand Chapter Sweetheart and she received Grand Chapter Committee appointments almost every year since 1962. Donna was always the first to help when a fundraiser was held. One of these was sending out letters to young and old at Christmas and Donna especially enjoyed this. Donna enjoyed arts, crafts, painting, knitting, crocheting and sewing. She took up bowling after the age of 70 to keep active and became a very good bowler. Donna was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Idabel and was currently attending the First United Methodist Church in Idabel in which she became a member of in January of 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil O. Johnson in 1989; and a granddaughter, Jacqueline Carol Johnson in 1990. Donna is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, James and Judy Johnson of Hot Springs Village, AR, Jack L. and Elaine Johnson of Richardson, TX, Fred K. and Linda Johnson of Idabel and Tim R. and Donna Johnson of Cartwright, OK; grandchildren, Judy K. Foster, Jeff Johnson, Krista Trower, Susan Michelle Foch-Gatrell, David Johnson, Lori Johnson, Misti Lynn Langley, Kelly Johnson Tyler, Stephanie Carr, Timmy Johnson, David Moyer and Tim Moyer; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, February 25, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the White Family Chapel in Idabel with Rev. Bruce Brotherton officiating. Interment will follow in the Denison Cemetery.
