Obituary of Ruby M. Burnett

Ruby M. Burnett passed away on June 8, 2010 at Idabel at the age of 90. She was born to Bob and Maye Johnson Montgomery on October 26, 1919 at Avery, Texas. She was of the Baptist Faith. At the age of 5, Ruby’s family moved to the Shinewell area where she lived when she entered the Army Air Corp during WWII. Though training there she became a Registered Nurse. She met Lyda Burnett, a patient of her’s who was receiving treatment for injuries he received in WWII. He soon would become her husband. The couple married in 1946 in San Antonio, Texas. Returning home from the war, Ruby worked at the County Health Department as a Nurse for 36 years, retiring in 1986. She also worked home health in Valliant for about 2 years. Ruby loved her grandkids as much as anything in the world and was always taking care of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Eunice Smith and Mary Betty Oglesby; a grandson, David Burnett. Ruby leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 64 years, Lyda Burnett; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Carson Burnett of Idabel, John David and Henrietta Burnett of Idabel; daughter, Jeanne Ruth Vave of Honolulu, Hawaii; sister, Valerie Perry of Idabel; grandchildren, Jamie Dawn Heard and husband, Corbin of Austin, Texas and Burnett “Efitu” Vave of Hawaii; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
