Obituary of Juanita Dodd

Juanita “Nita” Dodd, 78, of Broken Bow went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 17, 2010 at her residence. She was born on June 28, 1931 in Midway, OK, the daughter of E.M. and Ollie Collins Holmes. Juanita married James L. Dodd Jr. on September 21, 1948 in Morris, OK and thus began a lifetime of marriage and ministry that would last for 61 years. Bro. James Dodd was a pastor and she a faithful pastor’s wife. They served as pastors for churches in California, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana and were currently serving at the Lighthouse Christian Center in Broken Bow. A dedicated follower of Christ she was very active in her husband’s ministry. She led singing, taught missionettes, directed ladies ministries, was a faithful prayer warrior and an example of forgiveness to all who knew her. Sister Dodd was a lady with a sweet spirit and was willing to do whatever she could for whoever she could. A devoted wife, loving mother and faithful friend, she was an accomplished homemaker and wonderful cook. Sister Dodd was given to hospitality and loved to provide food for people, especially her tacos and biscuits and gravy. She loved growing roses, reading and was an avid collector of glassware. She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughters, Jill Dodd and Melodee Ping; brothers, Ernest Tene Holmes, Curtis Holmes and Tommy Holmes; and a sister, Bernice Edmonds. Juanita leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James L. Dodd Jr. of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, James L. Dodd III and Susan of Thomasville, NC, Jerry Dodd and Phena of Malvern, AR, and Jeffrey Dodd and Sue of Howe, OK; daughter and son-in-law, Juree and Mike Ping of Alliance, OH; sisters and brother-in-law, Leoma Windham of Oxnard, CA, and Gerrie and Darrell Garner of Brentwood, TN; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many cherished friends. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Jill Dodd Memorial Scholarship Fund, Southwestern Foundation, 1200 Sycamore, Waxahachie, TX 75165.
