Obituary of Leon Harris

Leon “Garr” Harris, 87 of Idabel, passed away on May 7, 2010 at Idabel. He was born July 17, 1922 at Avery, TX. He was raised by his parents, Henry and Frances Harris in the Pleasant Hill Community. Leon served in the United States Army and was a World War II Veteran. He served in the Pacific Theatre, where he was a medic. He was a bulldozer operator and worked construction all over. Leon was the one responsible for digging the Idabel Municipal Swimming Pool. Leon loved people and visiting with his friends was his favorite thing to do. He was a member of the V.F.W., was affiliated with the Baptist Faith and was a lifetime resident of this area. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virdie Marie Harris; sons, Curtis Harris and Gary Harris; and a daughter, Lisa Harris. Leon leaves to cherish his memory his sons and daughter-in-law, Phillip Harris of Idabel and David and Rita Harris of Hodgen, OK; daughters and sons-in-law, Nettie and Larry Raymond, Patricia Harris and Kathey and Gary Wiley all of Idabel: a sister, Lula Bishop of Clarksville, TX; a very close friend, Teresa Dean of Idabel; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
