Obituary of Odell Johnson

Odell Johnson, 87 of Tom, passed away on May 4, 2010 at Idabel. He was born October 29, 1922 at Tom, the son Gordon and Ethyl Casey Johnson. Odell served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Alaska during the time the Japanese invaded American soil. He enjoyed his time in the service and spoke of it often. On June 1, 1946 he married Maurice Long at LaJunta, Colorado. The couple made their home in the Harris Community, where he was an avid farmer, rancher and gardener. Odell enjoyed taking his produce to the farmers market. He was a member of the American Angus Association. Odell and Maurice attended Tom Baptist Church until their health no longer permitted. However, he and his wife were ministered to at their home by the late Rev. James Carrell. Family was especially important to Odell and he cherished his time spent with his children and grandchildren on his farm. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maurice Johnson; brothers, Loss Johnson, L.C. “Red” Johnson, Willie Johnson; sisters, Lucille Holder, Verna Jordan; son-in-law, Mike Hadley. Odell leaves to cherish his memory his sons and daughters-in-law, Dannie Joe and Sherrie Johnson of Cooper, TX and Gerald and Benet Johnson of Idabel; daughter, Rita Hadley of Conroe, TX; grandchildren, Andrea Slakey and Karla Meeks of Cooper, TX, Tina Sievers of Cedar Falls, IA, Chrystal Stamm of Conroe, TX, William Johnson of New Orleans, LA, Levi Johnson of Idabel; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
