Obituary of Viola Hunt

Viola “Vi” Cora Ryan Hunt of Ashdown, Arkansas ended her journey here on earth on October, 15, 2009 at Texarkana, Texas. She was of the Baptist Faith. Viola was 85 years, 7 months and 25 days old. She was born February 19, 1924 at Haworth, Oklahoma the daughter of John and Berdie Faughtenberry Ryan. On June 5, 1944, she married Roy Hunt in Reno, NV. They had two children. While living in Cactus, Texas, Viola and a family friend organized the Girl Scouts for the families of the community. She was also a charter member of the Sherwood Oaks Council at Fort Bragg, California. In the early 1980’s Roy and Viola moved to Ashdown Arkansas, from Chico, California. After arriving in Ashdown, Viola began to volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center. She continued to do volunteer work at the Center until her health prevented her from doing so. Quilting was a favorite hobby of Viola’s. She would always have a quilt ready as a gift for family or friends when there was a wedding or new baby arrival. Since 1968 she has given away 71 quilts as gifts. She also loved working on crafts, working in her flower bed, and decorating her home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and showed her love of her family through her actions. Viola was preceded in death by her husband Roy on December 21, 2008, her daughter Wilma Jean “Jeannie” Hunt on February 22, 2007 and two brothers, Clemon Ryan and Kenneth Ryan. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Praew Hunt of Thailand; grandsons, Jason Hunt of Texarkana, TX, Bryan Hunt of Palm Desert, CA, Jam Hunt and Stephen Hunt both of Thailand; four brothers, Hap Ryan and Lee Ryan both of Chico, CA, Curt Ryan and Doyle Ryan both of Ashdown, AR; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
