Obituary of M. Shane Baxley

M. Shane Baxley, age 35, of Idabel passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at his residence. He was born on April 14, 1974 in Charleston, SC. Shane graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant in 1996 with a B.A. in Public Relations/Advertising. He was currently working on his Masters Degree. He had worked several years at James Hodge Ford and had worked at Southeastern in several different capacities including customer service rep. and interim sports information director. In 2006 Shane moved to Charleston, SC and was the Asst. Director of Media Relations for a year at the College of Charleston before moving back to this area. Shane was an avid Southeastern Oklahoma State University sports fan. He loved attending football and basketball games in Durant and wrote several newspaper articles about the teams. Shane was a master mason and a member of the Idabel Masonic Lodge. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved spending time with family and friends. Shane was a member of the Redland Methodist Church and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Eugene and Mable Bingham; and uncle, Donald Murray. Shane leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Gene Bingham Smith of Idabel; sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly and Shelby Brinkley of Idabel; nieces, Kennedy Brinkley and Karsyn Brinkley both of Idabel; uncle and aunt, Mike and Lois Baxley, and Patty Murray all of Charleston, SC; close friends and mentors, Mary Kathryn Hodge of Idabel and Rusty Farley of the Redland Community; several cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers a scholarship fund in Shane’s name to benefit a McCurtain County Student has been established through Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
