Obituary of Abbie L. Battiest

Abbie L. Battiest, age 82, of Idabel, passed away Monday, September 7, 2009 at DeQueen. He was born February 14, 1927 in the Redland Community, the son of Lastie and Ada James Battiest. He married Verna Williams on April 30, 1949 and she preceded him in death in 1987. Abbie was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Battiest Plumbing in Idabel for over 45 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Kulli Tuklo Methodist Church and was a lifetime resident of Idabel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant son and daughter; and his brother, Abraham Battiest. Abbie is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Noe Battiest of Hilo, Hawaii, and Earl and Dana Battiest of DeQueen; daughters and son-in-law, Vivian and Tim Williams, and Velma Battiest all of Idabel; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Dorothy Wesley, Violet Sanders, Eva Bacon, Vera Battiest all of Broken Bow, and Emily Basknight of Indianapolis, IN; a step-brother, Virgil Jessie of Weleetka, OK; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
