Obituary of Chester Mathis

Chester Mathis, 71, of Tom passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009 at his residence. He was born April 5, 1938 in Whitman, West Virginia, the son of Corny and Myrtle Epperly Mathis. Chester raised and fought gamecocks for many years and was very successful at it. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Catherine Boytech. Chester is survived by his son, Gene Mathis of Calvin, OK; a brother, George Mathis of Whitman, West Virginia; his former wife, Zenia Stringfellow of Calvin, OK; close friends and neighbors, James “Goob” Wright and Penny Wright along with their children, Jarod and Scott all of Tom; several other relatives, and a host of friends.
