Obituary of Cecil Jennings

Cecil Jennings, 81 of Haworth passed away June 8, 2008 at Sherman, TX. He was born June 13, 1926 in the Pleasant Hill Community, the son of J.J. and Essie Eva Presley Jennings. Cecil married Girte Lou Hollingsworth on September 6, 1947 in a ceremony after church services in the Pollard Community. Cecil was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country during WWII. Stationed in Germany, he was a part of the Vanguard troops that entered Germany after the war was over. He didn’t talk much about his experience of war, but revisited the area where he served in 1979 and recalled many things that happened there. Cecil enjoyed woodworking, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing games with his grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a jack of all trades and a member of the First Baptist Church of Tom since 1983. He was preceded in death by his parents; 9 brothers and sisters, Ella Clampet, Leona Veteto, Marie Mariano, Irene Wheeler, A.G. Jennings, Olen Jennings, infant brother, Leon Jennings, Martha Carnes; grandson, Dustin Devore; great grandson, Griffin Jennings; grandson-in-law, Joe Greer. Cecil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Girte “Lou” Jennings of the home: sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil Lynn and Linda Jennings of Cartwright, OK, Gary Allen and Jo Ellen Jennings of Holdenville, OK; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Joy and Dennis Devore of Mansfield, LA, Karen Sue and Freddie Lankton of Tolland, CT; brother, W.H. “Bill” Jennings of Idabel; sisters, Opal McNeal of Idabel, Dorothy Blocker of Colleyville, TX; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. In leiu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the First Baptist Church at Tom.
