Obituary of Evelyn Gray

Evelyn Gray, 82, of Idabel passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Idabel. Julia Evelyn Gray was born on March 5, 1926 in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Bertram and Pearl Torrance Carter. She was raised in Kansas City, Missouri and later met and married John Gray Jr. in Olathe, Kansas on February 2, 1946. Evelyn was an accomplished homemaker and seamstress, making many of her children’s clothes. She worked for many years as a sales clerk at Woodruff’s and then at the Grand Leader. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and hunting. Evelyn was of the Baptist Faith and had lived most of her life in McCurtain County. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as friend. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jay Paul Tapley; 3 brothers and 1 sister. Evelyn is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Gray Jr. of Idabel; daughters and son-in-law, Terrie and Roy Burris of Broken Bow, and Claudette Gray of Idabel; a son and daughter-in-law, John C. Gray III and Dian of Burleson, Texas; grandchildren and spouses, John and Tammy Holmes of Shreveport, Ginger and Jonathan Wilson of Plano, Ron and Tara Burris of Broken Bow, Brad and Tracy Burris and Justin and Michelle Tapley all of Idabel; a sister, Carolyn Skinner of Las Vegas; 5 great- grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
